Mary 'Polly' HANCOX Nathan, 1789 - 1840, John, m. in 1818 gave the name to the locality known as Breedtown soldier in Rev. 1757 in CT d, 1839 settled in Cherry Tree Twp. Hazel BREED Caroline Ruth George Clifton. Sophia COOPER of Butler Co., PA children: John Cooper, m. & Emeline GROVE Bradley Curtain Andrew continued to operate the family farm in Cherrytree Twp. at Bradleytown, Plum Twp., Venango Co., s/o John J. 1848 to Julia BANEY, d/o John & Susannah BENNINGHOFF Baney children: Amena Helen 'Minnie', b. 1825 in Clearfield Co., PA, s/o John & Elizabeth HEISE Benninghoff d. Susanna BENNINGHOFF, d/o Frederick & Elizabeth WERT Benninghoff children: Jacob, abt. In 1861 the first flowing well was struck on the McElhaney farm. In August of 1859, Drake's well was drilled in this township, an event which marked the beginning of a new era in the history of western Pennsylvania. Isaac NEWTON erected the second house and opened the first store. The first house in the village of Cherry Tree was John ELDER, a blacksmith from Centre County, PA. In 1798 James TUTHILL and John STRAWBRIDGE located in this area.The IRWIN, HAMILTON, FARR, PRATHER, ARCHER, TARR, STEWART, MCFADDEN, ALCORN, BREED & GRIFFIN families arrived in this area in the early 1800s. The Reynolds family secured a 400 acre tract on Cherry Tree run in 1797. They were met by land agents of the Holland Company who induced them to make the journey to northwestern PA. 
The first permanent settler of this area was William REYNOLDS who came from England with his family. Venango County Map 1903 Cherrytree Township was organized in 1817 and occupies a nearly central position on the northern line of Venango County.
It was then sold to Alpheus Kellogg (1850-1930)(ALW48).Tear in map, so some places are not legible This farm was originally settled by George Tarr (1766-1845) who came from Eastern PA about 1800 and was in the Tarr family for three generations. Please consult the property owner personally before going on the property. Note: This is a private cemetery on private property. The latitude and longitude provided here are for those three pine trees. Walk up this road about 1000 feet and turn left up the hill about 350 feet to the cemetery located under three pine trees. There is a field on the right and an old road along the field. At the intersection of SR 417, turn left and go approx.
